It’s the fourth consecutive year Richmond has been a top producer for the student program. Since the program’s inception, 68 UR students have received a Fulbright award.

Each year the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announces the top-producing institutions for the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government's flagship international educational exchange program. The Chronicle of Higher Education publishes the lists annually.

In response to program adaptations to prioritize health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021-22 Fulbright data reflects the total number of awards offered, rather than accepted. Four UR students were offered Fulbright grants in 2021.

"The Fulbright is a wonderful fit for Richmond students who are deeply interested in cultural exchange,” said Dana Kuchem, director of the Office of Scholars and Fellowships, which administers the Fulbright student competition for UR. “Recipients engage in international study that fuels both their intellectual and personal development.”

“We thank the leadership of these institutions for supporting their faculty advisors and administrators, who are instrumental in guiding their students through the Fulbright application process,” said Ethan Rosenzweig, deputy assistant Secretary of State for Academic Programs in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. “We know that U.S. institutions benefit from having their students represent their campus overseas, which often fosters reciprocal exchanges that in turn help further internationalize U.S. campuses.”
