University of Richmond Law Professor Danielle Stokes Awarded Grant for Research on Energy Transition Policy
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — Danielle Stokes, University of Richmond assistant professor of law, has received grant support for a three-year project for research focusing on energy transition policy.
The $47,066 subaward from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation via Barry University will support her contribution to the project, "Just Energy Transitions and Place,” which focuses on both state and local energy transition policies.
"This interdisciplinary project seeks to develop a framework that integrates community voices, social sciences, law, and policy,” said Stokes. “From a legal perspective, we will examine existing and proposed legislation as well as social and economic policies that address energy transitions.”
The team will also conduct field studies across four jurisdictions to examine how and if location effects equitable policies, and from these findings, they will produce scholarly articles, policy proposals, and a community toolkit.
Stokes is a 2013 UR alum. As an undergrad, she majored in philosophy, politics, economics, and law and received her law degree from the University of Virginia. She previously served as a faculty fellow at Syracuse University College of Law. Prior to joining academia, Stokes worked in land use and real estate law with McGuireWoods. Stokes has taught at UR since 2021.
