$3 Million Gift to the University of Richmond Will Support Jewish Life

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — UR alums and longtime generous benefactors Carole and Marcus Weinstein will donate $3 million to the University of Richmond Chaplaincy to support Jewish life.
“The Weinsteins’ support will strengthen our goals of enhancing Jewish community, supporting our student-centered Hillel offerings, and engaging with the campus and Richmond community,” said Jewish Chaplain and Director of Religious Life Josh Jeffreys.
The Weinsteins said they have long been impressed with the ways the Chaplaincy supports all students in their faith and spirituality.
“We have participated in several Jewish life events on campus and are excited to contribute to the ongoing efforts to cement a vibrant and inclusive Jewish life at the University,” said Carole Weinstein.
“Jewish tradition teaches us that giving to others is critically important,” said Marcus Weinstein. “By sharing what we have with other people, we hope to make the University of Richmond and the wider world a better place.”
Among numerous contributions to campus, the Weinsteins most recently donated $25 million to the University of Richmond to support a center focused on student learning.
“Marcus and Carole are towering figures in the history of our university, and extraordinary philanthropists in so many areas of our campus,” said University President Kevin F. Hallock. “They are also simply kind and wonderful human beings.”
The Weinstein family’s gifts have also supported scholarships, faculty chairs, international education, well-being, and the Chaplaincy, including its pilgrimage programs.
“The Chaplaincy encourages students to follow their own faithful paths while appreciating the sacred journeys of others,” said University Chaplain Craig Kocher. “This latest gift from Marcus and Carole helps ensure our students have that capacity and opportunity.”
