University of Richmond Seniors Head to Leading Companies and Top Graduate Schools Around the World

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — The University of Richmond will award more than 1,000 degrees during Commencement ceremonies May 11­–12.  

The University expects to award the following degrees:

• 757 undergraduate bachelor’s degrees from the School of Arts & Sciences, Robins School of Business, and Jepson School of Leadership Studies;
• 33 bachelor’s degrees and 80 master’s degrees through the School of Professional & Continuing Studies; and
• 148 juris doctor degrees from the Richmond School of Law.

New this year, to make the ceremony more accessible to guests, American Sign Language interpreters will be onsite in addition to live captioning on the screens projecting the ceremony. 

Future Plans

From Nashville to Copenhagen and Los Angeles to Dubai, graduating seniors are heading to jobs and graduate schools around the world. The Class of 2024 has secured jobs and fellowships at highly coveted companies and organizations, including Amazon, Google, McKinsey, Barclays, the FBI, and Teach for America. Students are continuing their education at some of the world’s premier graduate institutions, including Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Oxford, Emory, Vanderbilt, and Yale.

By the Numbers

• 28 graduating seniors received prestigious scholarships or fellowships for national or international study, research, or service: for example, a Goldwater scholarship or a Fulbright student grant.
• 96% of students indicated their post-graduate plans align with their career goals.
• The Class of 2024 includes 69 international students representing 36 countries.
• Through study abroad, research, and internship programs around the world, nearly 60% of the Class of 2024 studied abroad with University support.
• 128 Arts & Sciences seniors presented research at this year’s A&S Symposium.
• The Jepson School of Leadership Studies Class of 2024 comprises 61 majors, including three who received full scholarships to University of Oxford master’s programs and six who completed senior honors research theses.
• 100% of business school graduates participated in at least one experiential learning opportunity, either as part of their degree studies or outside the traditional classroom experience. Examples include Spider Business Hub, Student Managed Investment Fund, Student Managed ETF, capstone projects, case competitions, and practicums.
• More than 20% of law school graduates earned the Carrico Center Pro Bono Certificate, which recognizes students who complete at least 120 hours of service during their three years of law school. Collectively, the Class of 2024 Pro Bono Certificate recipients have performed more than 5,000 hours of service.
• Graduates of the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies program in the School of Professional & Continuing Studies completed 5,000 hours of practicum in five public school divisions and multiple independent schools throughout the Richmond region.
• Seniors in the Bonner Scholars Program served with 60 unique nonprofit organizations in the Richmond region during their four years.
