University of Richmond Celebrates Costa Rica For International Education Week
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — International Education Week returns to the University of Richmond Nov. 18–22, with “Pura Vida: Costa Rica.”
The weeklong celebration will explore Costa Rican culture, politics, food, environment, and more with academic programming and social events for the campus community.
“International Education Week is a time for UR to forge strong relationships with international colleagues and to encourage our students to experience the world at Richmond,” said Martha Merritt, dean of international education. “Costa Rica is a growing hub of global connection for us, and we’re excited to bring Costa Rican scholars and a journalist to our campus.”
Guest lecturers include Juliana Martínez Franzoni, a social scientist who will provide the keynote lecture on Costa Rica's perceived exceptionalism, and Milena Cambronero, a biologist working on the conservation of water and endangered mammals.
Additional activities include:
- A community soccer match
- A celebration of Costa Rican cuisine across UR’s dining services
- Immersive Spanish language opportunities
- The annual IEW Fair, which will showcase UR’s ties to Costa Rica, including children’s literature, music, and study abroad programs
