University of Richmond’s ‘Unpacking the Census’ Hosts Community Event Exploring Child Well-Being Through Maps
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — The University of Richmond will host community partners for an event focused on the well-being of children in the Richmond region.
A Data Walk: Exploring Child Well-Being in the Richmond Region will be held April 10 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the University of Richmond’s Queally Center for Admission and Career Services. The event is free and open to the public.
The event, part of UR’s Unpacking the Census program, will feature a tour of newly created maps that showcase a variety of indicators of child well-being throughout the Richmond region.
Kyle Redican, director of the Spatial Analysis Lab, worked closely with UR seniors Michelle Quach and Alex Broening on the new maps. He notes that the data from these maps will help Richmond make informed and effective decisions to better serve children.
“The Data Walk is a powerful opportunity for community stakeholders to come together and put both children and maps at the center of our conversations about the region,” said Redican. “By visualizing data spatially, we can better understand not just where things are happening, but also the why.”
