Five University of Richmond Students Awarded Competitive Gilman Scholarships to Study Abroad

Latest Gilman Scholars will study in Czechia, Ghana, Portugal, South Korea, and Spain

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — Five University of Richmond students have been offered Gilman Scholarships to support their study abroad experiences.  

“Gilman Scholarships support international education opportunities for students who might not otherwise be able to travel,” said Ethan Knight, associate director of the Office of Scholars and Fellowships. “These students gain enriching cultural experiences as well as skills that benefit their academic and future careers.”

The Gilman Scholarship Program, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, awarded scholarships to approximately 1,550 American undergraduate students from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

UR’s latest Gilman Scholars are:

  • Kristal Boakye, a junior who will study abroad in Ghana. She is majoring in accounting.
  • Bonny Bruzos, a sophomore who will study abroad in Czechia. She is majoring in philosophy.
  • Ryan Dillard, a junior who will study abroad in South Korea. He is majoring in biology.
  • Brenda Galbier, a sophomore who will study abroad in Spain. She is majoring in psychology.
  • Amani Jamil, a junior who will study abroad in Portugal. She is majoring in economics.

Since the program started in 2001, 118 University of Richmond students have been offered Gilman Scholarships.
