UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — University of Richmond Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience Kelly Lambert narrates a new series now available on Audible Originals — “Sculpting Healthy Brains with Everyday Activities.”
The program, which launched in January, is part of a larger Audible partnership with The Great Courses, a series of high-quality, in-depth audio lectures covering topics like history, science, literature, and self-improvement, featuring expert professors.
Over the course of six episodes, Lambert explores strategies to help a person’s brain maintain mental and emotional health. Lambert specifically focuses on how experience-based activities, for example cooking, sewing, or gardening, can promote brain health. Lambert coined the term “behaviorceuticals” to describe these activities — juxtaposed to pharmaceuticals. She also explains her research on neuroplasticity, which enables the brain to rewire itself in response to new experiences.
“This project grew out of years of research with my students, personal anecdotes, and observations of how everyday experiences — movement, facing life’s inevitable challenges, hobbies, curiosity, and connection — quietly but powerfully shape brain health,” said Lambert. “It’s a reminder that the brain already has remarkable tools for resilience if we know how to use them.”
