UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — University of Richmond has been named a Gilman Program Top Producing Institution. The Gilman Program 25th Anniversary Top Producing Institution campaign recognizes U.S. colleges and universities that have supported the most Gilman Scholars from 2001-2025.

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program provides merit-based scholarships to talented American undergraduate students with high financial need to study or intern abroad for academic credit.

Richmond is among the top 25 institutions in the small colleges category supporting Gilman Scholars. Since the program started in 2001, 118 University of Richmond students have been offered Gilman Scholarships.

“The Gilman Program is a great fit for University of Richmond students who are interested in global connections and developing essential career skills through study abroad experiences,” said Dana Kuchem, director of the Office of Scholars and Fellowships. “This award also highlights that we are a national leader in supporting students to be competitive and successful applicants and recipients of major scholarships and fellowships.”

UR’s Gilman Scholars have studied abroad across the world. In December 2025, five University of Richmond students received Gilman Scholarships to support their study abroad experiences in Czechia, Ghana, Portugal, South Korea, and Spain.
