May 28, 2026

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — Caitlin Giustiniano, a Russian studies professor at the University of Richmond, has been awarded a fellowship by the American Councils for International Education.

During a four-week immersive program, Giustiniano will join a select group of U.S. teachers of the Russian language at Al Farabi Kazakh National University in Kazakhstan, where fellows will combine language and cultural study to further their skills as educators. Seminar topics include communication in contemporary Russian, teacher self-expression, and cultural instruction on the diverse peoples that make up the Russian-speaking world.

“I’m grateful to the American Councils for International Education for their support of my work as an educator,” said Giustiniano. “I am looking forward to learning new exercises and techniques in language pedagogy, and strategies to keep advanced grammar engaging for students. This program is especially exciting as it focuses on Russian-speaking cultures outside of Russia.”

Giustiniano has taught at UR since 2024. As a researcher, she specializes in Russian literature, including twentieth century Russian and Soviet literature, children’s literature, and absurdism.
