UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — The University of Richmond has once again earned recognition in the Fiske Guide to Colleges, one of the nation's most respected resources for prospective students and families. Richmond is among approximately 300 colleges and universities featured in the 2027 edition. UR has appeared in every edition of the guide since its debut in the 1980s.
The Fiske Guide evaluates institutions based on academic quality while also highlighting student life, campus life, affordability, and post-graduate outcomes. This year's profile praises Richmond's distinctive blend of rigorous academics, experiential learning, and strong sense of community. Quotes from students are shared to augment the information provided on each school.
"Everyone is super excited to be a Spider and be on campus," said one business administration major. "Students are diligent and hardworking but also know how to have fun."
The guide also highlights Richmond's distinctive educational model, emphasizing experiential learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom, along with the University's award-winning dining program, comprehensive support services, and commitment to student well-being, including Counseling and Psychological Services.
"From first-of-their-kind academic programs to innovative out-of-classroom learning and networking opportunities, Richmond is working hard to push its vision of preprofessional education shaped by commitments to the liberal arts, leadership, and community involvement," said the guide. “Students are also enthusiastic about Career Development’s programs, such as Spider Road Trips, which take students to major cities to learn firsthand about various industries and network for potential jobs and internships.”
The guide also recognizes Richmond's commitment to access and affordability, highlighting several signature programs, including:
- UR practices need-blind admissions and guarantees to meet the full demonstrated financial need of domestic applicants.
- The Richmond Guarantee, which provides funding to every traditional undergraduate to support a summer internship or research experience.
- Richmond's Promise to Virginia, which covers tuition, housing, and food for eligible in-state students whose families earn $75,000 or less annually.
- Richmond Scholars, the University's premier merit scholarship program, which provides full tuition, housing, and food, along with additional academic and leadership opportunities.
- Presidential Scholarships, which cover one-third of tuition and are awarded to approximately 10% of incoming students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement.
- More than 200 Division I athletic scholarships across the University's 17 varsity sports.
As one student reflected: “Just walking around our campus, going into our buildings and facilities, and talking to the average student will give you a new appreciation of what higher education, and specifically a liberal arts education, can bring you.”
