UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — The University of Richmond has been named to The Princeton Review’s Best Value Colleges for 2027 list. Richmond, which has appeared on the list since 2013, was also included among the Top 50 Best Value Colleges for private schools.

The Princeton Review selected 209 colleges for the 2027 list, which recognizes schools for their academics, affordability, and career preparation. Its selections were based on surveys of administrators at more than 650 colleges and students attending those schools, as well as alumni career and salary data from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard.

Richmond’s commitments and programs that help make a college education affordable include:

  • Need-blind admission and need-based aid: Richmond practices need-blind admission and meets the full demonstrated financial need of domestic undergraduate students.
  • The Richmond Guarantee: Every traditional undergraduate can receive up to $5,500 to support a summer internship or research experience.
  • Richmond’s Promise to Virginia: Eligible Virginia students whose families earn $75,000 or less annually receive grant aid covering tuition, housing, and food.
  • Merit scholarships: Richmond Scholars receive full tuition, housing, and food, along with additional academic and leadership opportunities. Presidential Scholarships cover one-third of tuition and are awarded to approximately 10% of incoming students.
  • Athletic scholarships: Richmond offers more than 200 Division I athletic scholarships across 17 varsity sports.

"We congratulate the University of Richmond and all the exceptional institutions that made our 'Best Value Colleges for 2027' lists," said Rob Franek, Editor-in-Chief of The Princeton Review. "In our opinion, they are truly the most exceptional in the nation at delivering outstanding academics, affordable cost, and great career foundations. We recommend them highly to college applicants, and we salute them for all they do to help students with need afford to attend them via comparatively low sticker prices and/or extraordinarily generous financial aid — all while providing an amazing college experience that's worth every penny."

Increasing affordability is a primary aim of Accelerate Richmond, Richmond’s $600 million philanthropic campaign, announced last week. A portion of a recently announced $150 million gift — $50 million — will match other donors’ gifts to endowed scholarships. The matching gift program — the Richmond Affordability Initiative — will further drive Richmond’s efforts to expand affordability for talented students from all financial backgrounds.
