University of Richmond Hosts Chuck Todd for Conversation About the 2026 Midterm Elections
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — Veteran journalist and former Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd visited the University of Richmond last week, sitting down for a wide-ranging conversation on the state of the midterms. The nonpartisan discussion was filmed live for an episode of public radio’s Full Disclosure, hosted by Roben Farzad.
Held in the Modlin Center for the Arts’ Camp Concert Hall, Todd and Farzad spoke to a sold-out audience of students, faculty, staff, and community members. With several races considered toss-ups, Todd said it’s unlike anything he’s seen in recent memory.
“There’s something interesting happening with these midterms,” he said. “Democrats are in a better position in red states than they are in some of the blue states.”
Outside of midterm predictions, Todd also discussed his time on Meet the Press, growing up in Miami, and how his fascination with politics since childhood led him to college at George Washington University and an eventual career in Washington, D.C.
“I looked for schools that had political science and music so I could double major and get some scholarship money,” he said, referring to his background in the French horn.
Summarizing his predictions for the midterms, Todd said he is confident it will be a “change election” and a pushback against the status quo, especially considering inflation and economic concerns.
The full conversation can be heard here.
Before the main event, Todd met with about 20 UR students across multiple majors, including political science, journalism, and leadership studies, providing them with a rare opportunity to learn more about his career and offer advice as they continue their education and pursue their careers.
“I’m used to pessimistic attitudes about AI stealing writing jobs and the news industry collapsing,” said journalism major Maria Byrnes. “It meant a lot to hear from such an accomplished journalist that there is always hope for a career in journalism.”
